IRPA Young Scientists and Professionals Award - 2023


Purpose of the Award


The uses of radiation require the education and training of qualified scientists and professionals in the field of radiation protection and safety to ensure high competences in this field. The purpose of this award is therefore to promote the undertaking of investigation effort by young scientists and professionals working in radiation protection in all its fields of competence. Also, there should be important opportunity to present the work in an oral form to an experienced audience of experts and peers.

This award is created as a prize for work done by young scientists and professionals, in order to help promote the interest and expertise of the new generations in the field of radiation protection in the different regions, rewarding dedication and excellence. It also aims to encourage youth participation in the activities of the Associate Societies of Radiation Protection around the world, consistent with the objectives of the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA).

Rules


To qualify for this distinction young scientists and professionals are required to:

  • be under 35 years, or in exceptional cases if the candidate is older, be in the first five years of their career in radiation protection
  • be the main author of a paper whose abstract has been approved by the Scientific Committee or Board of the candidate’s Radiation Protection Associate Society in that Region
  • if the work has more than one author, obtain the written consent of the other authors for the main author to be the candidate for the award
  • be officially designated by the relevant Associate Society in the Region of the Congress.

The candidate’s Associate Society is required to:

  • nominate their candidate(s) to the Congress organisers in accordance with the congress rules. For a Regional Congress the rules could allow for each society to present at most two candidates. Only one candidate per society is allowed for the International Congresses.
  • submit the candidate’s paper, according to the format and timescale stipulated by the Congress, for its evaluation by the Jury. The paper must be received at least one month before the start of the Conference, in order to allow the organisers to qualify the paper as part of the competition.
  • ensure that the candidate for the award can participate in the Congress and make an oral presentation of the paper. In case the candidate cannot assure his/her participation due to financial constraints, he/she will be able to apply for any of the scholarships that sponsoring organizations are able to grant. Normally the candidate’s Associate Society should ensure that the applicant can participate, where necessary by providing financial support.

Participation in this competition implies acceptance of these rules. Any doubt about the interpretation of these rules will be resolved by the Congress Organising Committee.

Call for Nominations

Nominations are invited by the ‘Dr. A.K. Ganguly Research & Development Award’ (AKGRDA) from Heads of Institutions / guiding teachers / immediate superiors for conferring the prize on any Indian Scientists below 50 years of age as on 1st January 2023. The nominee should have done meritorious work in the field of “Radiation Protection / Radiation in the Environment” in India during the preceding five years.

The nominations should have the following details:

  • 1) A brief of the nominee including the nominee’s full name, date of birth, educational qualifications and address for communication (including telephone, fax number and E-mail ID).
  • 2) Short write-up (not exceeding 300 words) highlighting major contributions of the person nominated in the field of Radiation Protection / Radiation in the Environment.
  • 3) List of relevant publications in the field of work carried out by the nominee (Multi-authored papers of which the nominee is the major contributor may also be included) with four sets of reprints.
  • 4) A certificate from the Head of the Institution or Laboratory where the research work was carried out by the nominee.
  • 5) Name and address of at least two referees (not related to the nominee) who are familiar with the nominee’s work and research ability.
  • 6) Name, designation, address and signature of the nominating person.

Call for Nominations

Indian Association of Radiation Protection (IARP) has instituted Dr. A.R. Gopal Ayengar Young Scientist Award (ARGAYSA) to honor meritorious young scientists below the age of 40 years as on January 1, 2023. The award will be conferred to the young scientist for outstanding research work in the field of Radio- Biology, Bio-Physics and Environmental Biology. The work should have been carried out in India during preceding five years and publish in scientific journals of international repute. MERITORIOUS RADIATION SAFETY OFFICER AWARD – 2023

Call for Nominations

In pursuance of the process of conferring “Meritorious Radiation Safety Officer Award (MRSOA)” instituted in 1994, it has been decided to continue this tradition of recognizing significant contributions made in Radiological Institutions. The award covers the field of use of radioactive materials and radiation generating plants in Industry, Public Health, Agriculture and Research. Candidates for this should be nominated by the Heads of their respective institutions. It may be noted that this award does not include nominees belonging to the institutions of DAE family. The nominees should fulfill the following requirements:

  • a) Have served as Radiological Safety Officer in any of the above-mentioned fields for a minimum period of 10 years.
  • b) Have made significant contributions in the area of radiation safety and optimum use of radioactive sources.

The award will consist of a citation and cash prize / medal and will be presented to the best nominee adjudged by a selection committee formed for this task. The nominations should have the following details:

MERITORIOUS OPERATION HEALTH PHYSICIST AWARD – 2023

Call for Nominations

Indian Association of Radiation Protection (IARP) has instituted “Meritorious Operational Health Physicist Award (MOHPA)” from 1996 onwards. It is open to Operational Health Physicists working at any of the DAE installations covering the entire Nuclear Fuel Cycle Operations, from mining and milling of radioactive materials to finally dispose of radioactive wastes. Radiological Safety Officers belonging to the Institutions of DAE family will also be eligible for this award. The nominations may please be sent to the undersigned by the heads of the plants / units / officer-in-charge, HPUs for this purpose. The nominees should fulfill the following requirements:

  • a) He should have served as Operational Health Physicists in any of the above-mentioned fields for a minimum period of 10 years.
  • b) He should have made significant contributions in the area of radiological safety.
