27th IARP NATIONAL CONFERENCE
The Indian Association for Radiation Protection (IARP) will be organizing its 27th National Conference during November 23-25, 2005 at the Multipurpose Hall, BARC Guest House, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai 400 094.
Indian Association for Radiation Protection (IARP) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) of radiation protection professionals in India and is an affiliate of International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA). Its main objective is to promote the science of radiation protection in nuclear technology and in the applications of ionizing radiation in industry, medicine, agriculture and research. Its important activities include – organization of workshops, seminars, national and international conferences, public awareness programmes and arranging training courses. IARP provides an excellent platform to communicate, exchange and share with the professionals as well as the public, the latest developments and experiences in the area of radiation protection of the workers, public and that of the environment. Yet another notable activity of IARP is the quarterly publication of an international scientific journal, ‘ Radiation Protection and Environment’. IARP is a national organization and has its Chapters spread out throughout India. It has been serving the international and national scientific communities for the past 37 years.
IARP NC-2005 will be devoted to ‘Occupational and Environmental Radiation Protection’. The major scientific thematic areas to be covered are: Occupational radiation protection, radiation protection of the environment & public, radiation protection dosimetry & instrumentation, management of unusual occurrences, incidents & accidents and emergency preparedness and radiation effects and risk assessment. In addition, there will be a panel discussion on ‘ICRP Recommendations on Radiation Protection – Past, Present and Future’, wherein the experts will bring out the rationale behind the evolution of ICRP recommendations.
Mumbai is chosen as the venue of the conference since as per the tradition every alternate conference of IARP is held at Mumbai, where besides IARP Headquarters, BARC, the premium research institution in nuclear science and technology and birthplace of Indian nuclear energy programme, is located .
